Education (2023)

Montréal Lake Cree Nation, SK

Lori Campbell knows first-hand just how crucial representation is for Indigenous peoples in the post-secondary sector. This intergenerational survivor of the residential school system and member of the Sixties Scoop generation didn’t envision herself at university until her basketball career brought her to the University of Regina. Four degrees and many years later, she embodies a notable force for change within academia. She has been instrumental in Indigenizing curriculum, mentoring young Indigenous scholars, and decolonizing the academy, publishing numerous papers and reshaping reconciliation narratives.

She has lectured at numerous post-secondary institutions around the world, from Iceland to New Zealand; she gives her time to numerous socially and environmentally responsible organizations, sitting on numerous boards. (She also recently appeared on CBC’s reality show Canada’s Ultimate Challenge.

In 2021, Lori became the first-ever Associate Vice President of Indigenous Engagement at the University of Regina, a position which enables her to ensure that Indigenous students will feel welcome in a new way at her alma mater. In everything she does, Lori is an unfailing advocate for Indigenous students, educators, and youth.
