Bernard McCue

Technology and Trades (2008)

Bernard McCue is on a quest. He went from being a small town boy with a thirst for knowledge to being instrumental in fine tuning every television in the world.

As a child growing up on the Beausoliel FN he wanted to know why things worked – he took them apart, reassembled them, took them apart again and asked why?

“I was curious by nature,” he says. “I wanted to know more and didn’t have the answers so I kept looking for the answers through my education.”

After fours a years in residential school “which wasn’t the best learning environment,” his pursuit for more answers led him to post-secondary education. Science and math was natural for Mr. McCue who soon found himself after graduation in the front-end of the chemical research and development industry for over 30 years where he excelled. He made significant contributions to the development of synthetic jet aircraft lubricants, was awarded three U.S. patents and made process improvements for the television industry by using new and innovative methods. The patents awarded are recognized as international achievements and are used world-wide in every television manufactured. But it is was his father, Merritt, whose words of encouragement kept him grounded and inspired to seek more.

“He wanted us to work hard for a better life, to pursue our dreams and get a better education. Because that’s where the answers were.” Not only did Mr. McCue work as a chemist, a Research Technologist, and labratory technician but he founded his own business McCue Enterprises and also led his community as chief. Mr. McCue say he is most proud of his wife Anne of 43 years who he dedicates his award to, his 26 grandchildren and his seven great-grand children. He continues to work with his community and although he says he doesn’t have all the answers yet, he’s satisfied with what’s he has found. “I am lucky that I was able to achieve a few things in my life that I wanted to do.”
