Indspire is seeking a Content Writer & Storyteller to play a vital role in advancing Indspire’s mission by creating compelling narratives and engaging content for Indigenous students, educators, and communities. Reporting to the Senior Communications Advisor, this position is responsible for developing written content that informs and inspires key audiences, including donors, partners, and the broader public.
Through storytelling, this role helps highlight the transformative impact of Indspire’s programs, ensuring that Indigenous perspectives are authentically represented while fostering greater awareness and support for Indigenous education. By crafting high-quality, mission-aligned content, the Content Writer & Storyteller contributes to Indspire’s efforts to create meaningful change and opportunities for Indigenous learners across Canada.
Key Responsibilities
Writing & Storytelling (60%)
- Providing editorial and content-related administrative support to the Senior Communications Advisor and the Communications and Marketing team.
- Creating engaging content for Indspire’s website, newsletters, press releases, blog posts, reports, and donor communications.
- Developing impactful narratives that highlight the journeys and achievements of Indigenous students, educators, and community members.
- Supporting scripting for all Indspire events.
- Writing material for presentations, speeches, media opportunities,
- Conducting research and interviews to gather insights and firsthand accounts for storytelling.
- Responsible for internal communications as directed by the Senior Communications Advisor.
- Overseeing the planning, editorial and content creation for Indspiration Magazine.
- Editing and proofreading content to ensure clarity, accuracy, and consistency.
- Ensuring all written materials align with Indspire’s brand voice and messaging guidelines.
Marketing & Digital Content (30%)
- Assisting in developing content for social media, email campaigns, and marketing materials.
- Adapting long-form stories into concise, compelling formats for digital platforms.
- Collaborating with the communications team to create content calendars and ensure timely delivery of materials.
- Supporting the development of scripts and captions for social media, video and multimedia projects.
General Content Support (10%)
- Assisting with event-related communications, including promotional materials, attendee engagement and post-event summaries.
- Helping maintain and organize content archives for easy reference and repurposing.
- Staying informed on best practices in digital storytelling, content marketing, and audience engagement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably as an educator, or equivalent in a training or education-related position.
- 5 years’ work experience in resource development and project coordination
- Knowledge of Indigenous education issues, challenges, and delivery models
- Lived experience engaging with Indigenous communities, knowledge of culture, and traditions.
- Ability to work effectively with others.
- Strong writing and oral communication skills.
- Solid critical thinking, analytical, research and problem-solving skills
- Self-motivated, detail oriented, energetic, positive, self-confident, creative, culturally competent, flexible, and able to maintain
- Ability to maintain to strict confidentiality.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office and database systems
