Sports (2025)

Gusgimukw and Nuxalk Nations, BC

“For me, movement is a daily ceremony honouring my body, heart, mind, and spirit. It offers me an opportunity to honour Creator, my ancestors, family, community, and future generations. It strengthens me, enabling me to walk with integrity and goodness, expanding my capacity for love, joy, and countless blessings.”

Inside and outside the ring, Ivy Richardson lives her values and shares them with the world. A national-level competitive boxer, she is the very first Indigenous person to sit on the board of Boxing BC, where she created the Indigenous Committee (which she continues to chair). Ivy holds degrees in First Nations studies and physical education along with certifications as a personal trainer, yoga teacher, and boxing coach. In 2019, she founded her own non-profit organization, Red Girl Rising Movement Society, to provide accessible and empowering programming specifically designed for Indigenous peoples. Her work reaches remote Indigenous communities where access to such programs is often limited or nonexistent – exemplified by her creation of Team 700, BC’s first all-Indigenous youth competitive boxing team, and Wina Wellness, a dedicated space for Indigenous women and girls. Richardson serves on a suicide prevention team as a trauma-informed movement teacher. She has worked with brands such as lululemon, Reigning Champ, Everlast, Sport Chek, and Under Armour. She is also co-owner of the Nanaimo Amateur Boxing Association, working tirelessly to ensure that its programs are universally accessible. Ivy Richardson’s efforts have helped to create inclusive environments where everyone, regardless of background, benefits from the healing advantages of movement.
