Indspire > Events > National Gathering > Presentations > From STEM Resources to Indigenous Community Learning: Localizing STEM with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, Land and CulturePresented by Dr. Simon Brascoupé and Dr. Deborah Saucier
How can Indigenous and non-Indigenous educators make STEM meaningful to the First Nations and learners they serve? Drawing on more than 30 years of experience in Indigenous education and Let’s Talk Science’s extensive work with Indigenous communities, this practical session shows educators how to adapt STEM resources to local land, language, culture and priorities. Participants will learn to engage Elders and Knowledge Keepers, connect STEM with local ecosystems and Indigenous knowledge, and use storytelling, Two-Eyed Seeing and experiential learning. Educators will leave with practical tools and an activity they can begin adapting to with students on Monday morning.
