Circle Stories We Carry
Indspire > Events > National Gathering > Presentations > Circle Stories We CarryPresented by Marcia Novo and Jacqueline Bouvier
In the Kenanow Bachelor of Education program, Kenanow means “All of Us”, it reflects our belief that learning happens through relationships with people, land, place, and community. This session explores how teacher candidates translate Indigenous ways of knowing and being into Manitoba classrooms through land- and place-based learning. Using stories from our program and classrooms, we will demonstrate practical approaches that foster meaningful connections to local land, culture, and community. Participants will experience the interactive “Artifact Blanket” activity and leave with an adaptable lesson they can incorporate across subject areas to support Global Competencies and Mamahtawisiwin in authentic, relationship-centred ways.
The artifact blanket will be an opportunity for participants to learn from our experience with teacher candidates, as well as students in the K-12 school system. Then will time permitted we will engage with the participants so they can share their own “stories they carry.”
