The Indian Act: Listening, Learning, and Reflecting
Indspire > Events > National Gathering > Presentations > The Indian Act: Listening, Learning, and ReflectingPresented by Tammy Stoneman and Flora Asp
The presentation highlights 21 things you may now know about The Indian Act. After over 140 years, the Indian Act continues to shape, control, and constrain the lives and opportunities of First Nations in Canada, and is at the root of many stereotypes that persist. The book 21 things you may now know about the Indian Act will be utilized because it is a valuable resource in the truth and reconciliation process, where awareness from both Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities are expanding. This presentation highlights education and awareness for educators and learners in this country we know as Canada. Participants will have the opportunity to explore different themes of the Indian Act and discuss what they have learned with others. We will be providing additional print resources.
