Indspire’s “A Feast in the Forest” Celebrated Indigenous Culture and Education During National Indigenous History Month with Sold Out Gala Evening

June 26, 2024 – Toronto, ON – Indspire, a leading advocate for Indigenous education in Canada, hosted its ‘A Feast in the Forest’ fundraising event on Wednesday, June 12th with over 600 guests. Held at the historic Evergreen Brick Works in Toronto, this year’s event was an extraordinary celebration coinciding with National Indigenous History Month, offering a unique opportunity to honor the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.

Building on the incredible success of the first A Feast in the Forest in 2022, which raised over $1,000,000, this year’s event continued to support Indigenous students by funding bursaries, educational programs, and resources by raising over $1,000,000. The proceeds from this event will empower students to pursue and achieve their academic aspirations, contributing to a brighter and more inclusive future for all.

Mike DeGagné, President & CEO of Indspire, expressed heartfelt gratitude, stating, “We are thankful for the support from all attendees, sponsors, donors, and everyone involved in bringing ‘A Feast in the Forest’ 2024 to life. Your generous contributions make a profound difference in the lives of Indigenous students, enabling them to pursue their educational dreams and succeed.”

National Indigenous History Month is a time to reflect on and celebrate the profound contributions of Indigenous peoples to Canadian society. A Feast in the Forest provided an exceptional platform to support Indigenous education while celebrating the vibrant cultures and histories that enrich our collective heritage.

The evening featured a bespoke menu prepared by Chef Adrian Niman and inspired by the work of Indigenous chef and Indspire Laureate David Wolfman. The innovative meal offered guests a taste of diverse Indigenous culinary traditions, celebrating the depth and richness of Indigenous cultures.

Andy Pringle, Principal and Chairperson at RPIA highlighted the importance of this event, stating, “Supporting Canada’s future means investing in the education and success of Indigenous students. RPIA is proud to be part of this meaningful event and to contribute to the empowerment and bright future of Indigenous youth across the country.”

Entertainment was provided by celebrated Indigenous artists, including Aysanabee, Alex Kusturok, Fawn Big Canoe, and Red Sky Performance, whose performances highlighted their artistry and dedication to showcasing Indigenous culture and heritage. Additionally, Chyana Marie Sage, an Indspire bursary recipient and first-time author, shared her inspiring story, underscoring the impact of Indspire’s support on her educational journey.

Chyana Marie Sage shared “It was such an honor and full circle moment to be able to share my story for Indspire. There is no other organization who I would have wanted to debut my journey to, and all that I have had to overcome in the pursuit of making my dreams come true. Speaking in front of so many community members and allies made the delivery so much easier on me, and the support I felt through each step of the way was so encouraging. I hope my story can help other students to recognize that so much is possible when you never give up on yourself, but also, when you allow community to help you along the way.”

The Indspire team is incredibly thankful for the support from all attendees, sponsors, donors and everyone involved to bring A Feast in the Forest 2024 to life.
