Roberta Jamieson receives The Lynn Factor Stand Up for Kids National Award

Ohsweken, ON – September 10, 2020.

Indspire is delighted to announce that its President and CEO, Roberta Jamieson, is the recipient of the 2020 Lynn Factor Stand Up for Kids National Award. The award is part of Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada’s Stand Up for Kids movement which aims to mobilize Canadians who want to help change the future for the country’s most at-risk children and youth.

“It is with deep honour, and gratitude, that I accept The Lynn Factor Stand Up For Kids National Award”, said Jamieson. “In my heart, I believe that every First Nations, Inuit and Métis child comes into this world with tremendous gifts and potential , but they face great challenges because of our shared history. Access to quality education  which validates and supports them as Indigenous peoples along with much needed financial support, is vital so that children in foster care will be able to accomplish their dreams.”

The Lynn Factor Stand Up for Kids National Award is presented by Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada (CAFC), the country’s leading charity dedicated to improving the lives of children and youth involved in the child welfare system. With the help of dedicated donors and supporters, they are helping children in child welfare move from surviving to thriving and empowering them to break the cycle of abuse and neglect they were born into through no fault of their own. CAFC raises and grant funds and develops programs that are delivered in partnership with 74 child- and youth-serving agencies across the country, with the objective of reaching the unique and diverse population of children and young people involved in child welfare.

“Roberta is a visionary and her life-long commitment to Indigenous youth in this country is inspiring,” says Donald Guloien, Chair of Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada’s Lynn Factor Stand up for Kids National Award Committee “The award committee was struck by her ongoing determination to create systemic change for Indigenous youth and to establishing equal access to educational and mentorship opportunities that continue to help guide their future.”

“On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to congratulate Roberta on receiving this award”, said Dave Tuccaro, Chair. “Throughout her career, Roberta has been a constant advocate for Indigenous youth. Over the past 16 years, under Roberta’s leadership, Indspire has distributed over 42,500 scholarships and bursaries, valued at over $132 million to First Nations, Inuit and Métis youth . She truly is creating change in not only the lives of these students, but their families, communities and Canada as a whole.”

The Lynn Factor Stand Up For Kids National Award includes a grant award of  $50,000 which Jamieson will be directing towards Indspire with a specific focus on youth in foster care.
