Call for Presentations: 2015 National Gathering

The 2015 National Gathering for Indigenous Education is coming to Calgary, AB on November 13-14, 2015, and the call for presentation proposals is now open.

The theme of the conference is “Increasing Student Achievement through Holistic Education.” Holistic education considers the mental, emotional, physical and spiritual needs of the child. For our students to be successful, they need to have a balance of all four aspects in their lives.

We welcome proposals on topics related to the following areas (click here for more examples):

Mental (Knowing):

  • Academics, literacy, and numeracy
  • Early learning
  • Special education

Emotional (Feeling):

  • Student mentorship programs, role models
  • Substance abuse and suicide prevention
  • Parental engagement

Physical (Doing):

  • Land-Based Learning
  • Attendance and graduation strategies
  • Supporting students in transition: rural to urban areas; high school to post-secondary

Spiritual (Being):

  • Culture, language, and traditional arts
  • Culturally relevant resources/curricula
  • Understanding of colonial legacy and residential schools

The deadline to submit proposals is April 24, 2015.

Indspire’s National Gathering for Indigenous Education brings together hundreds of educators of First Nation, Inuit, and M├ętis K-12 students, all of whom are committed to closing the gap in Indigenous education. Registration information will be available before the end of the current academic year.
