We are currently hiring for a Senior Development Officer, Major and Legacy Giving. Reporting to the Director, Individual Giving, the Senior Development Officer is a key role in the expansion of support, utilizing extensive experience in developing and executing an integrated and long-range cultivation, solicitation and stewardship plan of current and prospective major gift and legacy donors. This role is a key contributor to the annual revenue goals of the Individual Giving team and will provide direction, planning and support to major and legacy gift fundraising related to Indspire’s programs.
The position responsibilities of the Senior Development Officer, Major and Legacy Giving include:
- Reports to and works closely with the Director, Individual Giving to develop and execute major and legacy giving fundraising campaigns, programs and initiatives aimed at engaging and involving individuals and family foundations with Indspire
- Performs prospect research to identify and qualify potential and major gift ($25k or more) donors and upgrade leadership donors, as well as cultivates and solicits prospects in keeping with Indspire’s priorities and fundraising strategies
- Maintains a giving portfolio of approximately 100 prospects, including new and existing; conducts a minimum of 30 face-to-face visits or calls per year with the goal of presenting at least 100 proposals and closing a minimum of 40 major gifts per year
- Collaborates with other departments to develop creative funding opportunities and produces proposals for presentation to donors and prospects
- Provides timely, and professional response to all planned giving inquiries received by phone, direct mail, emails, and surveys. Develops a follow-up plan, implements relationship management strategies and timetables for both prospects and donors
- Achieves annual major giving fundraising and legacy giving expectancy goals
- Works closely with Development colleagues to ensure successful execution of fundraising and stewardship strategies and programs to maximize revenues
- Creates donor communications materials including customized funding proposals/packages, pre-proposals, gift agreements, case for support documents, briefing notes for solicitation, newsletters, stewardship reports, presentations and other fund-raising materials as required
- Produces reports, analyzes results, recommends changes as required to maximize major gift revenues
- Assists the Director, Individual Giving with fundraising projects and programs as appropriate
- Participates in activities to develop and share new ideas that will result in better work practices and collective, team-based success to achieve increased fundraising results.
- Works with the Director, Individual Giving in the planning and implementation of leadership and major gift strategies, processes, procedures and policies
- Manages the donor stewardship cycle by ensuring leadership and major gifts are acknowledged in a timely manner
- Arranges prospect and donor visits, events and tours.
- Works with the Director, Individual Giving to prepare and update Planned Giving materials including brochures, websites, and forms
- Records donor contacts in the fundraising database and maintains accurate electronic and hard copy files on all leadership and major gift donors
- Works with the Director, Individual Giving to research and help plan the Department’s annual budgets, goals and campaign plans and annual work plans
- Provides support at fundraising events and for fundraising projects as required with the aim of enhancing the leadership and major gifts program
- Attends functions as appropriate to promote Indspire and its programs to donors and prospects
- Completion of a post-secondary degree or equivalent
- Progressive experience with a minimum of five years’ experience of demonstrated success in the not-for-profit sector in leadership or major gift fundraising from individuals
- Knowledge of and experience in Indigenous communities preferred
- Demonstrated openness to learning and willingness to engage in cultural competency training
- A solid understanding of the fund development and moves management process
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and public relations skills and the ability to cultivate relationships with and communicate effectively with all donors, volunteers, and other stakeholders
- Ability to effectively coordinate multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities
- Team player that displays initiative
- Highly computer literate and able to work effectively with databases
- Ability to work with sensitive information with complete confidentiality
- Working towards or attainment of CFRE an asset
- Ability to work in French is an asset
- Occasional travel between Six Nations and Toronto offices is required
- Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends and be willing to travel within Canada
