We are currently hiring for a Mental Health Program Advisor to join our Programs & Student Success department. Reporting to the Manager, Student Success, the Mental Health Program Advisor will coordinate and support various Student Success departmental initiatives. The Program Advisor will manage Indspire’s partnerships with mental health organizations and related activities. Additionally, the Program Advisor will be responsible for working with other external partners as they are identified. The role will also support Rivers to Success colleagues in their mentorship program delivery with respect to mental health initiatives.

The position responsibilities of the Mental Health Program Advisor include:

  • Manages partnerships with mental health organizations, coordinating working group activities, deliverables, including monitoring timelines, milestones etc. 
  • Ensures mentorship program activities take place with mental health best practices in mind and supports with training mentors in managing mental health in mentorship settings.
  • Identifies and assesses new partnership opportunities with mental health organizations and community partners
  • Establishes and builds relationships with national community mental health partners, developing working groups in support of student programming and mental health.
  • Contributes to the development culturally relevant and empowering mental health resources with external partners.
  • Values and illuminates culturally relevant mental health practices such as smudging, ceremony, working with Elders and Knowledge Keepers, learning about cultural values, protocols and community engagement opportunities that support mental well-being.
  • Monitors and evaluates outcomes, reporting to internal and external groups and partners.
  • Develops and delivers online resources related to Indigenous mental health in collaboration with external partners.
  • Plans and delivers events about mental health in collaboration with external partners.
  • Responsible for other projects and relationships as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent experience in mental health.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in project coordination or program management with education background as a definite asset.
  • Lived experience engaging with Indigenous communities, knowledge of culture, traditions and ideally issues affecting Indigenous youth.
  • Experience with creating and maintaining mental health resources and programs including quality management processes.
  • Experience working within a mental health environment and/or with marginalized communities including thorough understanding of the social determinants of health.
  • Demonstrated openness to learning and willingness to engage in cultural competency training.
  • Skilled in partnership management and relationship building, ability to build rapport with others and work collaboratively.
  • Strong organizational skills, flexible and able to work with short timelines and multiple priorities.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent judgment, decision-making and analytical skills
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office, database systems, and developing online content.
  • Experience in event management an asset.
