Candace Sutherland

Youth (2012)

“If I can do something to help, I’m going to help. I’m not going to blind myself from it.”

Candace Sutherland has set an exceptional example to young people across Canada. Knowing what it was like to be poor and hungry, she devotes her time to helping others. Donating to charities such as Ma-Mawi-Wi-Itata and Shamattwa Reserve allows her to give back to those who need it most. She recently completed a run across Canada Called “Vision4Hope” in support of the Salvation Army, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Diabetes Association and the Canadian Cancer Society. She runs marathons yearly in exchange for food donations for the homeless and less fortunate. Some of the marathons she runs annually are the “Candace Sutherland Run”, a run she has done since she was the age of 12; and the “Run for the Hills” marathon, a run in which she has turkeys donated for Thanksgiving meals. Ms. Sutherland continues her fundraising efforts and speaks to many Northern youth about poverty and her goal to “Never give up on your dreams.”
