May 30, 2017 6pm – 6:30pm ET

Join the live webinar here:  http://indspire.adobeconnect.com/creelanguagerevitalization/

This engaging webinar shares details about supporting Métis content in elementary classrooms.  St. Michael Community School received funding from the Rotary Reader project to bring in a Métis Educator/Author/Artist to integrate Métis content in a variety of subject areas with the Buffalo being the focus. Our host will share a lesson that was utilized in her grade 2/3 classroom.

Participants will learn:

  • How to authentically include Métis knowledge keepers.
  • How to create an environment that is responsive and respectful to Métis content.
  • How to use Métis symbols within lessons.

Presenter: Penny Condon is a Métis artist who convocated from the Saskatchewan Urban Native Teacher Education Program (SUNTEP).  For the past 15 years, she has taught within the Greater Catholic School Division and is currently the Grade 2/3 teacher at St. Michael Community School.  Penny has fused her artistic ability with her desire to educate young children.  She is the author and illustrator of two children’s books, and has done artwork for a variety of organizations and publications. Most recently Penny contributed ways to incorporate Métis content with the Trickster Tales; Chi Jean and other Métis Tales, which is a series of Métis Stories through Scholastic Canada.  Supporting the inclusion of Métis content is a natural process with her everyday teaching and she was thrilled to be part of a great reading resource to educate children about Métis stories, culture and traditions.
